ActiveFX™ | DeepFX™
The Results: Dramatic Resurfacing Results with Less Downtime
If you want the natural-looking results of laser resurfacing but need a shorter recovery period, ActiveFX™ | DeepFX™ is an attractive option. A single treatment dramatically improves fine lines, deep wrinkles, sun damage, skin laxity, and scarring with only four to seven days of downtime.
Fractionated laser beams leave small “bridges” of untreated skin to help the treated areas heal more quickly. While traditional laser resurfacing can require up to two weeks of recovery, ActiveFX™ | DeepFX™ gets you back to your regular routine in a week or less.
Another important difference: while traditional laser resurfacing is limited to the face, ActiveFX™ is effective on the neck, chest, hands, arms, and legs as well.
The Treatment
We use two types of fractional lasers to correct superficial imperfections as well as deeper problems in a single 20-minute session. ActiveFX™ directs a high-energy laser beam onto the skin’s surface in a broad pattern, eliminating blotchy pigmentation and fine lines. DeepFX™ sends a narrow beam of energy to deeper layers, stimulating the collagen to soften and smooth more pronounced wrinkles and scars.
You will see an immediate improvement in your skin’s tone and texture and a dramatic improvement of deeper wrinkles and scars over a period of several months as new collagen remodels the skin from within.
The Schedule
Your office visit takes approximately one hour. We administer topical anesthesia and nerve blocks before your treatment, and the treatment itself takes approximately 20 minutes. As the laser passes over your face you will feel a warm sensation. When you leave the office your skin will have the appearance of a deep sunburn. Your skin will flake off over the next five to seven days as it heals. With proper sun care, the results will last for many years.

FotoFacial™ | Intense Pulsed Light
The Results: Signs of Aging, Pigment, and Redness — Gone in a Flash
FotoFacial™/Intense Pulsed Light (IPL®) relieves a wide range of skin conditions to produce smooth, beautiful skin. Sun damage, large pores, irregular pigmentation, rosacea, redness, brown spots, freckles, and dilated blood vessels can all be reduced or eliminated on the face, neck, chest, arms, and hands.
The Treatment
Your aesthetician moves a hand-held device over the treatment area, sending precisely controlled pulses of energy in multiple wavelengths through the skin. Dilated blood vessels and excessively pigmented tissue absorb the heat and are eliminated.
Each light pulse lasts less than a second. You may feel a slight tingle or, in especially sensitive areas, a light pinching sensation. Anesthetic cream may be applied to minimize any discomfort.
The Schedule
Typically, five one-hour treatments at intervals of three to four weeks will deliver optimal results. A single treatment once every six months will refresh and maintain your new look.
Precautions
FotoFacial™/IPL® is safe and effective on all skin types and usually requires no time for recovery.
You may experience mild redness for up to 24 hours. On rare occasions, patients have experienced blistering, bruising, increased pigmentation, loss of pigmentation, or scarring.

Laser Resurfacing
The Results: The Young, Natural Face Even Surgery Cannot Achieve
If you want the firm, smooth skin of your youth — and not the “too tight” effect of a traditional face lift — laser resurfacing may be the answer. Lines, wrinkles, laxity, discoloration, and rough texture are replaced by fresh, smooth skin, plumped up by newly generated collagen. The results are natural looking and can take years off your face.
Dr. Ramsdell was the first physician to bring CO2 laser resurfacing to Central Texas. He is a recognized authority and has lectured and published about laser resurfacing.
The Treatment
Dr. Ramsdell must be informed of all medical conditions and medications that you take prior to the treatment. He will prescribe an antibiotic and an antiviral medication to begin the day before treatment and to be continued for 10 days.
You will receive either topical or local anesthesia for comfort and shields to protect your eyes. As the laser is moved over your skin, you will feel a warm or slight stinging sensation.
The CO2 laser sends a fine beam of light into the skin to remove damaged tissue, stimulate collagen, and correct lines, wrinkles, and scars. The laser can be adjusted from a gentle treatment to a more aggressive one, depending on your desired results and acceptance of downtime.
During your recovery period, you will need to follow some simple care guidelines. Your appearance can be expected to improve progressively over a period of months as new collagen is formed.
Precautions
Common side effects include redness and pain, which can be controlled with over-the-counter medications. Less common side effects include infection, scarring, and changes in skin pigmentation.

Microdermabrasion
The Results: Reveal the Fresh, Beautiful Skin Just Below the Surface
Is the beautiful, glowing skin you remember hiding under a few superficial problems? Microdermabrasion can polish and perfect your skin’s surface.
You can improve moderate sun damage, fine lines, and clogged pores with this simple, safe solution. It works on your face, neck, chest, arms, and hands. Microdermabrasion is often used to enhance the effects of other skin renewal treatments.
The Treatment
Tiny crystals propelled at high speed across the surface of the skin exfolate the skin and stimulate blood flow, enhancing cell renewal and collagen growth.
The Schedule
A microdermabrasion treatment requires no anesthetic or recovery time. It takes approximately one hour to treat an area such as the full face or the dècolletage. Multiple treatments are often required to achieve the optimal effect, and over time you will need additional treatments to maintain that fresh glow. You may get microdermabrasion as often as once a week.
Precautions
You should discontinue Retin-A and all other exfoliating or potentially irritating topical products five to seven days prior to microdermabrasion.

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)
The Results: More Effective Light-Based Treatments
A topical photosensitizing agent such as aminolevulinic acid (ALA) applied to the skin before a laser or light-based treatment makes the effects of that treatment even greater. PDT is effective for acne, actinic (precancerous) keratoses, photodamaged (aged) skin, enlarged oil glands, and other conditions.
The Treatment
Photodynamic Therapy targets rapidly dividing cells such as those in oil glands and precancerous areas. By preparing these areas with ALA before a ClearLight or Intense Pulsed Light treatment, we can improve the effectiveness of the light treatments and achieve more dramatic results.
The Schedule
The number of treatments necessary and treatment intervals will vary depending on the condition being treated.
Precautions
Retin-A and similar topical creams (Renova, Retinol, Differin, Avita, Tazorac) should be discontinued several days prior to PDT. Avoid sun exposure for two days following PDT, because your skin will still be very sensitive to light. If the Intense Pulsed Light machine is used to provide the light source, you must avoid the sun for at least one week prior to treatment as well.

PigmentFX™
The Results: Discolored Spots Eliminated in One Session
If you are bothered by age spots, freckles, or other pigmented areas, you can eliminate them forever with one quick visit to our office. PigmentFX™ is an effective laser treatment for the face, neck, chest, hands, arms, back, and legs that offers permanent results with rapid healing.
The Treatment
PigmentFX™ sends a laser beam through the skin to correct problems from within. The surface of the skin is heated — but not vaporized away — so your skin acts as its own bandage. When your treated skin sloughs off after a few days, the pigmented spots go with it. The only anesthetic you will need is a topical cream we apply before treatment.
The Schedule
The time required for a PigmentFX™ varies, depending on the area treated. The treated site will be healed in one to two days. With proper use of sunscreens to prevent more hyperpigmentation, the results are permanent.
